Points Idea

Here's a thought I had a few days back. Points are useless. We know that. But I was thinking of changing this a bit. If you hit a billion points, you would be reset back to some number. Then your name would be entered into a draw for a premium membership. We'd draw a winner every three months. There may also be other prizes involved, if people wished to sponsor them. If you were currently premium and you won, it would be extended. This gives all of the nonpremiums a chance to still get a membership, and makes the points a bit more useful. The people that are now standing above 2 billion would be put in the first two drawings. Thoughts?

Ooooo! I like it! Actually, I was contemplating suggesting some way to win a preemiam account! LOL I guess that'd be the way!

it's good j, but losing all those points? bragging is fun, even if I've got only 70 something million, lol

Post 6 by admin (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 11-Dec-2005 19:40:38

Well you get to a billion, you get reset, say back to 10,000. then you can go again. so you can win more tahn one entry.

I like it

Post 8 by Formula1 1999 (B & B forever!!) on Monday, 12-Dec-2005 0:35:58

sounds like a great idea. However, i think u should get set back to what a new member gets, not sure how much that is. that way it's harder to get into the drawing and the same people r not always in every time. or atleast some moderation so there is no repeat winner for 6 months, or a year.

Post 9 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 12-Dec-2005 0:36:04

but there has to be something in place say that if you win 2 times you cant win again for a while or you win one drawing then you cant win the next you have to wait till the third or something

Post 13 by Star (Honorary Bitch of the Zone) on Monday, 12-Dec-2005 5:06:45

what if the person is ALREDY a premium member???

Post 14 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Monday, 12-Dec-2005 12:00:56

Hmm, I'd say a lower limit such as 500000 is better, you want at lesat 5 or 6 people to be in the drawing. I'd bascially say take the top 10 people every 3 months from the point list, reset their points and have a drawing so that oneof them wins a premium membership. Or .. actually .. the one who does win gets his/her points reset but gains a premium membership (or extension if already a premium member). That way the remaining 9 people are still in for the draw but the one who won has to earn points to get back up there. I don't see why we should put limits on how often one can win, surely if you work hard enough to earn points you should be more eligible to win than someone who does not bother earning points, just like real life, if you work hard you get more money (well in theory atleast).
So, this is how I suggest the system would work.
Every 3 months notify to 10 people that you are about to draw for a premium membership, then the winner is announced and he/she is notified and has the option to get a membership extension (by, say, 3 months) and have the points reset or keep the current score and get no rewards.
Cheers
-B

Good idea

Post 18 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Tuesday, 13-Dec-2005 0:47:28

WB. I like that, but it's logistically a bunch more work. A billion isn't as hard as it seems with blackjack and hi-lo. Note that the limits may be raised a bit on these games as well. We'll see how it goes like this and possibly lower the limit if not enough people are in the draw each quarter. Starr, for people already premium, it would add a year to their membership. There's also the possibility for other prizes.

I really like this idea.

Post 20 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Tuesday, 13-Dec-2005 14:33:08

it makes me want to play high low now
I think that you should start everyone back at 1000, newbies still at 500, start everyone off equally when you do this to be fair, so they'd all have the same distance to go to win it. and a billion sounds good but I think you should leave game limits as they are, this has to have some difficulty to it ya know.
I think, once every 2 or 3 months you should pick the person with the highest points.
if no one reaches a billion, no one gets a free membership. if more than one person reaches a billion, give 1 membership to the highest pointed person.
was that too confusing? what do ya think?

Post 21 by Char (The sexy canadian) on Wednesday, 14-Dec-2005 21:40:48

i think it would be a good idea.

Post 22 by rat (star trek rules!) on Monday, 19-Dec-2005 21:19:00

I like the idea, but why set the limit so high! Not everyone can get that high, I have never seen anyone with that much

Post 23 by Harp (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 20-Dec-2005 20:15:33

gets my vote too! i like it

Post 24 by Harp (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 20-Dec-2005 20:22:08

apologies. but i should have added before that, if somebody is already a premium member and they should win the premium membership prize, could that extra 12 months just be added to there existing account so that already being a premium member won't matter?

that would seem to make sense to me anyway.

Post 25 by Wraith (Prince of Chaos) on Tuesday, 20-Dec-2005 20:28:27

I actually think that only those who reach the 2 billion mark should qualify for the drawing. We do, after all, not want just anyone winning these prizes.

I also don't think that premium memberships gotten this way should be full-fledged memberships. A six-moth membership, not a full year. After all, we still have to give those people who elect to pay a reason to pay.

Two billion point requirement, and draw winners as soon as there are at least four people with at least 2 billion points. Once a drawing is made, participants should be set back to: 1000 for non premiums, 10000 for premiums.

Post 26 by rat (star trek rules!) on Tuesday, 20-Dec-2005 21:20:44

that would give people an advantage, no way.

Post 27 by Wraith (Prince of Chaos) on Wednesday, 21-Dec-2005 3:33:30

Yes, Mikey. The people who are getting those advantages have, get this, paid for those advantages. Would you want to get the same grade of coffee as the guy next door who paid 5 bucks for his can, whilst you paid 20? No. You'd expect to gain more for your higher-cost contribution, and so too should it be on the Zone.

I'm sorry if you're feeling too cheap to donate to the site. But I know that I never complained about premium benefits whilst I was standard, because I was willing to make the economic sacrifice and live without the premium advantages. Now that someone so generously got me those benefits, I'm probably going to renew out of my own pocket when my time runs out, simply because I enjoy having the perks of premium membership.

In all honesty, I think premiums should be reset back to 50000, and standard members back to 1000, but I lowered that 50k to 10k, because I knew people like you would object.

Six months, or if you must, 9 months, for premium memberships won via these jackpots. Let people who pay get the full year.

cool idea

Post 29 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 29-Dec-2005 14:14:03

I think it's a great idea!

Post 30 by rat (star trek rules!) on Thursday, 29-Dec-2005 16:09:30

I never said I didn't like it, I just thought that the number of points to get was too high, and preneums should have to work for it too. If you want it to be fair, you reset to the same value

Post 31 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Friday, 30-Dec-2005 19:41:43

I agree mostly with wraith about the won premiumships should only be 6 months. maybe a 5 thousand advantage is good too, after all, we did pay for our accounts meh :P. I like wraith's ideas

Post 32 by The Lil Dark Piggy (This site is so "educational") on Saturday, 31-Dec-2005 13:07:34

Sounds like a grate idea!

Post 33 by rat (star trek rules!) on Saturday, 31-Dec-2005 13:10:20

I am premium now, and we have a game of anagrams all to ourselves. We can get points fast that way, so the gap shouldn't be to large

Post 34 by b3n (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 01-Jan-2006 20:18:51

Yeah this is a good idea, even though i am not a paying member, i still think that if everyone started getting paid accounts eith the same features for free then as rafe said what would be the point in paying?
Or maybe 2 billion points gets you a paid account whilst 1 billion just gets you a longer audio profile?
Coz i know that i would like that, BEN.
